For our German headquarter in Eching near Munich we are offering a thesis opportunity for a master student (m/f) in the field of Thermal Performance Development with the topic “Validation of Finite Element Analyses of the Modal Design Methodology”.
For the transportation industry, passenger’s acoustic comfort is of increasing importance during the vehicle development process. With the rapid expansion of hybrid and electric vehicles and the associated reduction of traditional combustion engine noise, HVAC system noise has become an important source of annoyance. OEM’s now typically define design targets/limits of the HVAC system noise levels in their vehicles. The use of a digital solution for predicting and optimizing the HVAC’s noise emission reduces prototyping costs and efforts and improves design cycle time to optimize noise levels relative to the other design constraints. With the so-called “Modal Design”, Denso has developed a revolutionary simulation methodology which uses Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Aero-Acoustics (CAA) in the design process of HVAC systems. The goal of this methodology is not only to reduce unwanted noise, but also to tune the HVAC’s noise emission to appear favorable for the passengers.
This is achieved by combining the fundamental knowledge of noise reduction mechanisms (mufflers, resonators, absorbers) with dynamic acoustic simulations, modal analyses and high-detailed predictions of flow-induced noise sources.
